Yes. Since 28 September 2026 all passengers sailing between Holyhead and Dublin must show a valid passport at check-in, whatever their age or nationality. Irish passport cards are accepted; driving licences and other ID are not. Passport rules in detail.

Is the fast ferry (Dublin Swift) running?

No. In 2026 the route is served only by cruise ferries. Be careful with older websites that still advertise a crossing of about two hours.

How long does the crossing take?

About 3 h 30 min with both operators, based on the timetables in our archive.

Which is cheaper, Stena Line or Irish Ferries?

It changes from day to day and from sailing to sailing. Our price page shows the cheapest fare we found for each operator on the same day, so you can compare like with like.

Can I travel without a car?

Yes. Foot passengers can walk on at both ports, and SailRail combines a train ticket from a British station with the ferry. Foot passengers & SailRail.

How we get our prices

Our sister site flashferry.com checks the fares of every sailing on this route and keeps a dated record. Each price here shows the day it was found. A fare on one day can come from a different search (number of passengers, vehicle) than a fare on another day, so we only compare sailings on the same day – never across days.
