Questions about cars and motorhomes

How much is the Holyhead–Dublin car ferry?

It depends on the day, the time and your party. Our price check shows the lowest fare we found for each sailing; the price search above gives the exact fare for your car and passengers.

Can I take a motorhome or campervan to Ireland on this route?

Yes. Stena Line takes motorhomes, campervans and minibuses up to 12 m long, 4 m high and 2.6 m wide. They must be registered as a motorhome or campervan. Irish Ferries also carries motorhomes; choose the vehicle type when you book.

Does a roof box or bike rack count?

Yes. Stena Line measures the total height and length including roof boxes, bikes and all other accessories. A car over 2 m high is a “high car”.

When does check-in close for cars?

Stena Line closes car check-in 30 minutes before departure. Irish Ferries: latest check-in 30 minutes before departure. Your booking confirmation shows the time for your sailing.

Are there tolls when I drive off the ferry in Dublin?

Yes, two are common. The Dublin Port Tunnel costs €14 southbound on weekday mornings (6–10 am) and €12 northbound on weekday afternoons (4–7 pm), less at other times. The M50 ring road has no barrier: without an account you pay online by 8 pm the next day (€3.80 for a car in 2026).
