Guide: staying overnight before the ferry in Holyhead

Near the terminal or on the coast?

On one of the early sailings (01:30, 04:00) every minute counts: from the town centre you walk to the terminal and avoid a night-time drive. With a morning or afternoon sailing, a place on the coast is worth it – Trearddur Bay and the rest of Anglesey are quieter and often cheaper.

Late arrival from Dublin

Ferries from Dublin arrive in Holyhead at 23:15, 01:00, 02:00, 03:45, 04:45. Many small places have no staffed reception by then. Look for self check-in when you book, or agree your arrival time with the host.

By car, motorhome or on foot

By car every place on Holy Island is a few minutes away via the A55. With a motorhome, choose a place with parking – there is a height limit at the port car park. Without a car, the town centre is the best choice because the station and ferry terminal are next to each other.
